The strawberry road. Spain May 2020
On April 15, 2020 A fire devastates the shanty town of immigrants and agricultural workers, located next to the San Jorge de Palos de la Frontera estate, one of the largest in the province of Huelva. 200 people have been left without shelter for a total of 67 burned shacks. After the fire some of the inhabitants have been building new precarious houses with pallets and plastics. The price of the pallets is euro per piece.
On May 16, 2020, with the help of the La Carpa Association, Friends of the Saharawi people and solidarity taxi drivers, we accompanied on their 10 expedition in the field the other entities involved in the fight to improve the living conditions of the settlements of the zone and its representatives: Antonio Abad, president of the association Asisti Cuenta Minera and founding member of the Huelva African Workers' Collective (CTA), and Lamin Camara, also a member of the CTA who regularly collaborate in assisting the inhabitants of shanty towns .
Thanks to the work of these entities, textile fiber donated by the GEOTEXAN factory has been brought in for the interior lining and insulation of the new shacks. 300 meters of fiber have been distributed and they have not been enough to supply all the neighbors.
