2006-2014. The Jnane Aztout shanty settlement rehabilitation project in Larache (Morocco) is the ONU Habitat Prize for the best practice of International Cooperation in Public Housing Policy 2018.

These photos are part of the exhibition held in 2014 between Spain and Morocco. The exhibition covers the entire process of transformation of the neighborhood from its origins (2006) to 2014.

The history of Jnane Aztout, a historic shanty settlement very close to the medina of larache and the large cemetery of Lalla Menana, is the history of a community, excluded and hidden behind a wall, that has struggled to recognize its full incorporation into the city of Larache.
Faced with the risk of expulsion and eviction, the neighborhood and its inhabitants organize to achieve regularization of land ownership, urbanization together with the provision of infrastructure and the replacement of shacks by stable housing. The objective of the project was to achieve the full incorporation of the neighborhood into the city of Larache, a process that sought to go beyond its physical eradication;, in the words of the president of the Widadiyat Redouan Akjeje, the ultimate goal had to be "eradicate the shacks from the minds of its inhabitants.
